Operator algebras serve as a natural setting for the description of non-commutative phenomena in Analysis and provide a large part of mathematical formalism of Quantum Physics. In particular, the past decade has witnessed a burst of interactions between operator algebras, quantum information theory and quantum groups. The school will introduce the participants to the basic techniques of operator algebras and quantum groups and their fascinating links to quantum information theory through non-local games.
Necessary prerequisites:
introductory course in functional analysis (Hilbert spaces, bounded operators)
topology (compact spaces, continuity)
linear algebra (linear operators as matrices, matrix algebra)
